I have been majority owner of Blankenship Construction since 2004 and have been co-owner since its beginning, dating back to 1967. Dave Blankenship, my husband, and I worked very hard to get this company where it is and I know that I am speaking for both of us when I say that we are honored with everything that it has become. Running a small business comes with a multitude of challenges along the way and running it as a Woman can present additional challenges, especially in a male dominated industry. It definitely took some time to adapt into a management role and establishing myself into a leadership position, not just as an employer but as a business owner to our customers. I have overcome these challenges by adapting to a management style that’s true to myself and who I am. I have been fortunate to work with some very special people along the way who have helped making this a successful company in terms of a dependable, cost effective, high-quality service provider with valuable employees and a commendable safety record.
The empowerment of women has a long way to go but I have watched it evolve nicely over the years. I think we just have to keep working hard to establish ourselves as equals to our male counterparts, be confident, assertive, strong willed, focused on company goals, while remaining true to ourselves and, of course, working hard.
